One of the ways that automobile manufacturers have come up to combat this problem is by designing a special converter which is put into the exhaust system called a catalytic ozone converter.

The catalytic ozone converter or is a stainless steel canister tight container which provides a place for chemical reactions to occur between unburned hydrocarbons and the rhodium and platinum found within the catalytic ozone converter.

The catalytic ozone converter works by changing the hazardous gaseous emissions into harmless gases before being passed out of the exhaust system. By law in most states catalytic ozone converters are required to be installed on your car and in working condition before it will pass the emissions inspection. If your car fails the emissions test, you cannot get inspection sticker, and you are given 30 days to get the problem corrected.

Catalytic ozone converters are vulnerable to internal clogging and regular wear just like any other auto part. If you believe that your catalytic ozone converter has gotten clogged up or is just not functioning properly you should have it looked at by competent automotive technician.
