Catalytic Ozone Converters are the Good of the Environment
Everyday millions of people around the globe add to the world's pollution problem by driving their car. As a
matter of fact it is estimated that currently there are more than 200 million trucks on our highways plus about
half a billion cars. Buy brand name auto parts, performance parts and accessories at the

Automobiles have been shown to be responsible for an alarming amount of air pollution on a yearly basis. All of
this pollution is having a day on the impact on the global environment. Each day there are millions of cars and
trucks around the globe spewing toxic fumes that are harmful to our environment.
When a combustion engine burns its fuel, hazardous gases are emitted such as carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and
volatile organic compounds, plus nitrogen oxide molecules. These emissions are quite hazardous to any living
organisms they come in contact with. These hazardous fumes and gases have also been steadily gnawing at the earth's
ozone layer for many years. The ozone layer is a protective layer of which shields us from the harmful rays in
sunlight.
One of the ways that automobile manufacturers have come up to combat this problem is by designing a special
converter which is put into the exhaust system called a catalytic ozone converter.
The catalytic ozone converter or is a stainless steel canister tight container which provides a place for
chemical reactions to occur between unburned hydrocarbons and the rhodium and platinum found within the catalytic
ozone converter.
The catalytic ozone converter works by changing the hazardous gaseous emissions into harmless gases before being
passed out of the exhaust system. Catalytic ozone converters have specialized reduction catalysts in the end which
break down nitrogen oxide into its two components, nitrogen and oxygen.
There are also catalysts within the catalytic ozone converter which are known as oxidation catalysts. These
catalysts break down the harmful carbon monoxide gases into harmless carbon dioxide gas.
By law in most states catalytic ozone converters are required to be installed on your car and in working
condition before it will pass the emissions inspection. If your car fails the emissions test, you cannot get
inspection sticker, and you are given 30 days to get the problem corrected.
Catalytic ozone converters are vulnerable to internal clogging and regular wear just like any other auto part.
If you believe that your catalytic ozone converter has gotten clogged up or is just not functioning properly you
should have it looked at by competent automotive technician.
Not only is it the law that you have to have a working catalytic ozone converter on your
automobile, it is also a moral obligation to the environment and the creatures that inhabit it.
